Our Department of Pupil Services has been hard at work supporting the families impacted by a recent fire. Pictured are donations for George M Davis Elementary School families, who also received $2,000 in gift cards! Thank you for your generous donations. The Department is also working with transportation to coordinate pickup for displaced students.

City School District of New Rochelle Superintendent Jonathan Raymond helped pack more than 400 bags of supplies for students on Saturday. The community event was hosted by Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle.

The school year is coming upon us quickly, but great work already is taking place! Behind the scenes, our dedicated custodians at George M Davis Elementary School and across our District are helping prep wonderful and safe environments for students, teachers and staff! They are the change we want to see and need – and their efforts are deeply appreciated!

New Superintendent Jonathan Raymond, as part of his “Listening and Learning Tour,” has been immersing himself into our schools – including meeting with each school’s principal. Columbus Elementary School Principal Michael Galland provided a tour this week and pointed out this example of Columbus students’ inspiring, creative artwork!

A new and unique art piece now decorates the halls of Albert Leonard Middle School. The mural, titled "Through it All, We Stick Together," was created from artwork from all Albert Leonard Middle School art students. Art teachers said the meaning behind the mural came from not trying to forget this past year — but trying to remember it. Students attending classes virtually were given the option of picking up a stick at the school or creating a digital stick that art teachers could print, cut and glue onto the mural.

We are incredibly proud of our very own Trinity Elementary teachers, Terri Sanchez Agravat and Johanna Vasquez, for helping author a valuable article on the importance of family involvement in STEM education, specifically in marginalized communities. Terri and Johanna helped detail how marginalized communities historically are not represented in STEM education and careers due to lack of resources, leading to them creating a pilot program known as Family Outreach and Research in Education and STEM (FLORES). FLORES works with families to support students ages 5-7 in and outside of the classroom by encouraging STEM learning opportunities in everyday life. Check out the article below!

The first day of school is Friday, Sept. 10, and that's right around the corner! There's already a lot in store for this school year; you can take a look at the attached PDF, as well as the District's master calendar online, to learn more about events, celebrations, school closings and more. We'll be updating the master calendar as additional events are scheduled at our schools.

Please share your vision for the future of the New Rochelle Public Library by filling out a brief survey. You do not need to have a New Rochelle Public Library card or a current user of the Library to participate. The Library wants to hear from all New Rochelle residents, across our entire community. Your input will help shape the Library's goals for the next five years, and is a critical part of the strategic-planning process.
