To celebrate Black History Month, second-graders at Daniel Webster Elementary School have been learning about the heroes who changed history in our country. Students have been reading articles, watching videos, and taking notes on the traits that each hero possesses. The students then wrote about the heroes, supporting their thinking with evidence and details. As a culminating project, each student chose a hero to highlight on a quilt square, noting important events and facts that have helped the fight for equality. The quilt squares were “stitched” together to form a “Freedom Quilt.”
